John Elkin was going off road from an early age, family camping trips to Death Valley were highlighted by side trips to old mining towns. By 1980 he discovered off road racing watching ABCs Wide World of Sports and by 1981 was photographing at races. Soon after he began writing articles for the publications of the day and even started competing in several races. A thirty year career as a rally navigator followed. Today, retired from competing, John returned to his writing and photography as a freelance automotive journalist and author of two books on off road racing. The first is Bronco Racing: Ford Legendary 4x4 in Off Road Competition, and next year another book about Jeeps in off road racing will follow. John lives in Vancouver, Washington, with his wife and teenage son and two rescue dogs.
