There’s definitely some irony that Cameron, Missouri is known thanks to the infamous Pony Express mail service of the 1860s and another rider that is willing to cross the US just as fast as she can. Hailing from just 50 miles north Kansas City, Addison Nible jumped in her own seat and raced into the distance. Addison has advanced from ATVs like most riders, but wanted a little more thrill. But rather settling into one platform or race format, she has a small fleet of UTVs for every occasion because who knows where the trail may lead her.
UTV Sports: What first inspired you to drive and race?
Addison Nible: I have always been an outdoors person. Around five years old, my dad bought me my first four-wheeler, it was a Polaris 90. My love for motorsports just grew from there. I loved it because driving it gave me another reason to be outside. As I got older, I always wanted something faster and faster, so that’s why I started to get into UTVs. I started out going on family trail rides everywhere, and now, I’m racing all over the U.S. almost every weekend.
USM: How did you get started in UTV riding?
AN: There’s the saying with age comes a cage, and that’s what has happened with me already. As I got older, all of my friends had side-by-sides, so I wanted one. My first UTV was an orange Polaris RZR 800. I drove it anywhere and everywhere I could. One of my favorite trips traveling with it was when we took a family trip to Huntsville Tennessee to the White Knuckle Event. I loved hitting the mud holes and climbing the challenging hills.
I have pictures of me vertical on rock walls. I’ve always been a thrill seeker and I met my match when they came out with UTVs. We went on rides and everyone called me the “guinea pig”. If they wanted a line tried out, they would just look at me and I wouldn’t hesitate. There was one time when I hit a mudhole and had water flowing over the doors of my RZR. UTV riding is a blast and makes for awesome memories.
USM: How did you get started in racing?
AN: I started racing ATVs when I was around 6 years old doing horse shoe drags and went undefeated by age 11. I eventually got bored with it, so I quit. When I was 15, I started racing UTVs. I got asked to run the 4-hour Heartland Challenge with a Polaris RZR team, Jagged X Racing. I was the second driver on our team and I moved us up from 16th place to 9th in only an hour and a half. I also had the fastest lap time! Ever since, I’ve been hooked. From there I raced a Polaris 900 XP, and now I have a whole fleet of UTVs I use for different series. I run from a Honda Talon 1000 X to a Polaris RZR RS1. Once racing is in your blood, you can’t get rid of it. I live for the adrenaline rush!
USM: Do you have any inspirations?
AN: I really look up to my coach Treavis Poynter. Treavis has coached me for the past three years. He is a five-time UTV Off-Road Champion, so I value his input and insights. There is not a day that goes by that he’s not pushing me to become more competitive. He travels with us to every race and if he’s not able to make it to a race he video chats with me after. He always gives the best pep talks, tells me what I have done wrong and how to fix it.
He’s like a big brother to me. I know he’s always got my back. He does anything and everything to make sure we are on the podium and finishing. We were in Kentucky at a race and my transmission went out, I lost 4 wheel drive and got caught on a tree and couldn’t go anywhere. Treavis without hesitation jumped out of my RZR, informed me to stay in the driver’s seat and not to move and he used a hand saw to cut a tree down so we could get back to the pits. He’s the best coach anyone could ever ask for.
“I love dodging trees at high rates of speed!”
USM: What type of riding do you prefer?
AN: I love any type of trail riding. When it comes to racing, my favorite style is cross country racing. I love dodging trees at high rates of speed! It takes a lot of skill and focus.
USM: Do you have other hobbies outside of powersports?
AN: I really love to cook and bake. My favorite meal to make is smoked meat, potatoes and cream cheese stuffed peppers wrapped in bacon. I love to bake anything. This past Christmas, I made around 20 dozen cookies to hand out to businesses and people around my community.
USM: Are there any destinations you would love to go ride?
AN: I would love to go ride in Colorado. I’ve always thought it would be fun to go overlanding in my Jeep Gladiator in Colorado and enjoy all of the scenic views.
USM: Tell us a little more about yourself.
AN: Outside of racing, I work a full time job at my parent’s trash company. I throw trash, run recycling routes and clean porta-pots. I have two dogs, one is a havapoo named “Otis” and the other is my red heeler “Daniel”. I love being outdoors and spending time with friends and family. I also value education and just graduated from North Central Missouri College last fall with a Business Technology Degree.
USM: Does your family ride or race?
AN: My sister, Josey, races. She is a 2x National Champion. She’s only 14, and is killing it!
USM: Do you have any sponsors?
AN: Yes, and super thankful for each and every one of them: Crash Addict Industries LLC, Energy Coil Racing, Full Spectrum Power, HMF Exhausts, Raceline Wheels, KMS Performance, Raceco USA Inc., Zollinger Racing Products, Factory UTV, Go Fast Girls, Double E Racing, and Midwest Performance.
Addison is definitely making a name for herself. For the most part, you can find her racing across the Midwest and southern part of the country, particularly at TexPlex and the Championship Off-Road events. Give her a follow over on the ‘gram at @addison.nible
