You may have seen them around, the all new body style and look of the 2021 Chevy Tahoe. With a wide variety of packages from standard, to the z71 and the High Country, the Chevy Tahoe just might be what you are looking for when it comes to spacious interiors, sixty-six percent more cargo room behind the third row for Tahoe roomy, smart design and still gets the tow job done.
The 2021 Chevy Tahoe towing capacity is one thing driver’s will continuously be impressed by. The Chevy Tahoe towing capability can reach a max of 8,400 pounds when properly equipped, perfect for towing your UTV or camper for your weekend getaways.
The all-new Chevrolet Tahoe is built on the GM T1 platform and equipped as standard with the L84 5.3L V8 that produces 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, while the optional L87 6.2L V8 generates 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet. Available later in the model year will be the Duramax turbo-diesel LM2 3.0L I6, good for 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. All three engines are connected to the GM 10-speed automatic transmission, in either 2WD or 4WD configuration.
Standard 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe towing ratings have increased by a significant 1,300 pounds, which means many buyers might no longer need the Max Trailering Package. In all cases with the 5.3L V8 engine, the package only adds 400 pounds of extra capacity.
But maybe you don’t need the max Chevy Tahoe towing ability – how low does the capacity go?
It depends on how the SUV is equipped; the Chevy Tahoe towing capacity works alongside the 2WD or 4WD configuration, as well as a 5.3L V8 or 6.2L V8 engine options for those seeking more power for hauls. The Chevy Tahoe towing ability is also increased if you choose the Max Trailering Package.
Below is a breakdown of the Chevy Tahoe towing capacity based on each configuration:
2WD Chevy Tahoe Towing Capacity
- 5.3L V8: 7,900 pounds
- 5.3L V8 w/ Max Trailering Package: 8,300 pounds
- 6.2L V8: 7,800 pounds
- 6.2L V8 w/ Max Trailering Package: 8,200 pounds
4WD Chevy Tahoe Towing Capacity
- 5.3L V8: 7,700 pounds
- 5.3L V8 w/ Max Trailering Package: 8,100 pounds
- 6.2L V8: 7,500 pounds
- 6.2L V8 w/ Max Trailering Package: 7,900 pounds
Now that you know the Chevy Tahoe towing capacity maxes out at 8,300 pounds with the Max Trailering Package, there are two other features on the 2021 Chevy Tahoe that you should know about.
Advanced Trailering System (ATS)
The in-vehicle Advanced Trailering System gives you an easy way to keep tabs on your trailer’s information and status through the infotainment system, if your vehicle has this feature. The ATS also integrates with the myChevrolet Mobile App, so you can access some of the features even if you’re not in your vehicle.
The system lets you start a sequence of the external lights on your vehicle and compatible trailer. That way, you can check to make sure the lights are working without needing another person to help you.
The ATS is also helpful for those early mornings when the coffee just hasn’t kicked in yet. Before you hit the road, you can use an illustrated, step-by-step guide for connecting your trailer to the vehicle, checking items off the list as you go. Select the “i” icon next to each step for details. You can even add custom items to the checklist by selecting “+Checklist Item.”
Hitch Guidance with Hitch View
If your vehicle has this available feature, Hitch Guidance with Hitch View displays a guideline on the Rear Vision Camera view when you’re in Reverse to help line up your hitch to your trailer and offers a close-up Hitch View. When driving, Hitch Guidance with Hitch View allows you to briefly check your trailer using the Rear Vision Camera view.
From family to toys, with a wide variety of package options to choose from, the 2021 Chevy Tahoe just might be the exact fit you need to haul everything you want.
