A Predator Awakens…
Behind The Build With Obor Tires
Did you say, Predator? Yeah, you heard that right. The all-new OBOR Tires Predator Side X Side UTV tire with extreme durability, improved comfort, all at reduced tire noise is coming. Wait! Let’s slow down a second here… I thought you were talking about the 1987 science fiction horror film? Who the heck is OBOR Tires? That’s a great question. Though we may not be talking about the movie, you’re not too far off on the year. To explain who OBOR Tires is, we need to introduce its ancestor company first. Ancestor Company? That’s right. Wanda Tyre, established in 1988, began its journey producing bicycle tubes. Over the years, they have manufactured tires for various segments in both off- and on-road applications. In 2019, with the vision to become the leader of the Global special tire industry through satisfying needs, pursuing quality, enhancing welfare, and repaying society, Wanda Tyre had pushed its way into the UTV industry. Enter OBOR Tires…
OBOR Tires, which is an acronym for “Our Belief On the Road”, is a competition-proven consumer brand designed for those who are not willing to be ordinary and dare to cross boundaries to find themselves. New to the UTV tire game and pushing those to travel the unusual path, they are ready to prove that they are the future of racing technology.
Stepping back in time around a year ago when preparing for the 2019 SEMA Show in Las Vegas and preparing to hit the US market in 2020, the OBOR Tires crew needed to make a visual impact so dealers could see what the Predator is all about. By this time, UTV builds were well past their infancy stages. With aftermarket accessories and equipment flying off the shelves, it was clear the company needed to assemble a stand out UTV. The decision was simple for them and it was in the form of a Polaris RZR Turbo S Velocity. With very little time until the upcoming show, they had to act fast if they were going to be ready. Bruce Nyland, National Sales and Marketing Manager at OBOR Tires, reached out to the crew at UTVSource.com, essentially an online superstore for UTV parts, to get the RZR whipped into shape, bringing their eye-catching vision to life.
Once the car was sent over to the UTVSource team, it was game on. With no time to waste, the teardown began, and it was painstaking to get all the factory parts off quickly so the crew at Fabwerx could work their magic and install their full line of products—from the fully loaded Whoopnut Cage to the full TT-Spec Suspension System front and rear. The final look on the parts would also be one of a kind adding a tube prepped finish to the cage and clear coating it for a raw fabrication look all the way around. Finishing off the outside once the cage was installed, KC HiLiTES was the light of choice, and the off-road inspired PRO6 LED light bar brought it all together. There is just something about round lights that fits nicely to give the feel OBOR Tires was looking for.
Now that majority of the outside of the build was complete, it was time to move onto the inside of the car. It was important that safety and style be equally as appealing as they were functional since this vehicle would not only be displayed at various shows to come, but also ran in the dirt. OBOR Tires’ next move was to seek out PRP Seats. They would stitch up a set of GT3’s and 5.3 harnesses, while Rugged Radios dialed in the communications wiring with their complete RZR radio and intercom kit and pumper air system. The final touch was a Rockford Fosgate Stage 5 sound system to bring life to the party when they hit the dunes or stop for refreshments with friends.
Up next was landing the UTV on its feet and bolting up a fresh set of 15” Vision Wheel MANX 2 Beadlocks which would further complement the final look. All of this to fashion the all-new OBOR Tires 34” Predator to the vehicle. Engineered as a true LT style UTV Tire, the Predator brings extreme race-proven durability with dual sidewall and center high ratio design to offer maximum handling and performance off-road. The stepped block design improves block rigidity, avoiding collapse. Siping is added to the pattern to effectively improve comfort while the multi-pitch design reduces tire noise.
Bringing this build to near completion by tying in the final look with the raw-coated chassis and suspension was left in the hands of Tyler at Total Tint, who did an absolutely killer job designing and installing the brown-toned wrap to really make this RZR stand out. As D-Day was approaching and it was time to hit the road to SEMA, the UTVSource.com team wrapped up a few final details like a Geiser Performance grill and Air Scoops, Safecraft fire extinguisher, and the full EVO Powersports Stage 3 performance system with exhaust.
SEMA Show 2019 was upon them and the final product was ready to be revealed in the OBOR Tires booth. TheUTVSource team delivered by bringing a stand out display to showcase their first look of the all-new Predator tire that is soon to be released. After a solid week of communicating the benefits of this new product to dealers and distributors, it was time to go get some glamour shots.
Fast forward to May 2020, the time is here and you can expect to be seeing the Predator in stores before long. OBOR Tires has a direct to dealer focus, and is pouring everything they have into delivering a product you are sure to appreciate from both quality and price. Stay tuned for what’s to come and you can be sure to see the official release with full detailed specs and sizing information soon, as tires are hitting warehouses this month!
