The racing heads to the famous Glen Helen Raceway for Round 5 of the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC WORCS series. The course was technical, with mother nature playing a big part as it rained steadily on Wednesday before the race, causing some track sections to change quite a bit in the off-road sections. After a rough start of the year, Beau Judge has shaken off the bad juju as he wins the second event in a row in the Pro Production class. Pro Stock saw Casey Sims take home his third win of the season after tightening the gap with Sebastian Marquez for the lead in points as we hit the halfway mark.
Eight drivers lined up for the pro stock battle on Saturday as the afternoon’s final race. In his Polaris RS1, Casey Sims was on a mission as he led from wire to wire during this race. Marquez put in a good charge as they battled lap after lap. But was unable to make it stick, allowing Sims to close some of the gap as only 17 points separate, leading them into cedar city, the final event before the summer break.
Beau Baron, who races his Honda Talon in both the Pro Production and Pro Stock class, was 3rd physically behind Marquez as the checkered flag flew. From the second line, MacCachren and Baker passed Baron on the corrected time, and Macachren landed third on the podium.
Pro Production on Sunday was no different; Beau Judge started out front showcasing the power in his Can-AM as he took off, putting distance between him and the rest of the field. Larry Heidler was giving him pressure the entire race till, on the last lap, he lost a wheel, causing him to finish on three wheels and lose valuable time, causing him to shoot from 2nd to 9th on the final lap.
Some of the frontrunners had costly mishaps or mechanical issues, with Shawn Saxton and Jeremiah Wagner having to fight to recover points as they were forced to claw back from far behind. MacCachren rode a clean race again for his second podium of the season, finishing in 2nd place. In third place was Tyson Leaver; after a particularly rough start to the season with 4 DNFs, Leaver was able to work out most of the kinks and charge his way to a 3rd place finish.
WORCS Racing wants to thank all the racers, volunteers, and sponsors for another great round of racing. And they can’t wait to see everyone at Three Peaks Oasis in Cedar City on May 26th-28th for the 2023 WORCS Party!
