Folks that live in our largest and most northern state are well known for their resiliency and ingenuity required to survive in such adversarial conditions. When an Alaskan adventure guide sets out to improve a product they’re using, it’s going to come out well. Peter Goodwin did exactly that in 2019 to generate off-season income. He was unimpressed with the current silicone ring he was wearing, so he designed his own with durability and breathability in mind. The Groove Life Ring was launched on Kickstarter in December 2015, and raised just shy of $18,000 from more than 600 backers.
Since then, their product line has expanded to include belts, watch bands, and wallets, all designed for rugged living. Everything Groove Life sells is backed by their “94-Year No BS Warranty.” Groove Life sent us a few products to test and see if they live up to everyday use in dust and dirt.
Groove Ring
We’ll start with the company’s founding product, the Groove Ring. Ours is the 3D Eternity Black Ring. It looks simple from a distance, but it’s etched with an unending Celtic knot to symbolize unity, life, and eternity. Inside the ring is Groove Life’s signature breathability grooves that let water out, air in, and prevent shriveling or irritation that other silicone rings can cause. Speaking of silicone, Groove Life uses a premium medical grade material that holds up incredibly well over time.
If you are particularly hard on rings, you could also consider their Zeus line of rings, which are reinforced with a nylon band embedded in the silicone. Our associate Alex Marsh has sported a Zeus ring for more than a year. “My ring has held up amazingly well,” he says. “I’ve worn silicone rings for a few years, and others don’t make it three months before they get sticky, itchy, or tear. When it did happen to catch a sharp edge and start to tear, a quick warranty claim had a new one to me within a week.”
Apple Watch Band
Combining Groove Life’s medical silicone construction and breathability grooves with Kryptek’s legendary camouflage ensures your Apple watch stays exactly where you put it and always looks great. Any parts of the band that aren’t silicone are 316 stainless steel to ensure years of hard use. Whether you’re flipping burgers in the back yard or stalking prey in the backcountry, this watch band does the trick.
Groove Belt
The Groove Belt makes you realize that belts can be a lot more than just the thing that holds your pants up. The webbing has enough stretch to be comfortable all day, even at the buffet, yet is stiff enough to never fold in your belt loops. The buckle is solid aluminum with strong neodymium magnets, which snap shut with authority and stay closed until you choose to operate the quick release.
Groove Wallet
Capable of holding six cards in slim RFID protected aluminum, the Groove Wallet fans them out with the slide of a thumb whenever needed. On the back, you can choose either a simple money clip or, if you can’t fully give up the Costanza life, opt for a leather sleeve to hold another couple cards. I’ve put mine through thousands of dusty miles, and it never fails to work smoothly when I need it. The simple and practical design is easy to clean and shows no signs of fatigue. A special bonus is feeling like a wizard every time you slide your cards out. The first batch of Groove Wallets sold out in 48 hours and racked up a waitlist of more than 7,000 interested customers.
We’ve been impressed by everything Groove Life has to offer. While there are cheaper options, Groove Life’s product design, materials, and warranty support are top notch and well worth the premium. You can find more info about all their products and warranty at groovelife.com.
