ODYSSEY Batteries Continue to Impress
Peace of Mind from a Livewire

Earlier this year, we looked at Odyssey batteries and all the benefits they offer over OEM batteries and other common aftermarket brands. While we focused on the design benefits that the AGM construction provides in Odyssey batteries, we felt it would be appropriate to discuss more of our experience after using them for a bit longer.
While we covered what AGM does inside this battery at length in our previous review, it’s worth another quick explanation. Whereas most batteries require water or another electrolyte to function, absorbed glass mat batteries like Odyssey’s are effectively sealed units. If the battery is in one piece, it should be able to provide power for its lifespan.
An advantage of a sealed unit is that you can get creative with placement. Whether you need to mount the battery somewhere unconventional out of necessity or have any form of mishap, these Odyssey batteries are functional in any orientation they are mounted.
The biggest advantage of utilizing an upgraded battery like this over an OEM model comes from the performance at the extremes. Be that from heavy loads, long periods without activity, or temperature extremes- both highs and lows. In effect, you get what you pay for with these batteries, with the peace of mind becoming prevalent with higher specification batteries like these. This peace of mind can easily be made even more solid by running a dual battery setup, freeing you up to run your electrical add-ons to your heart’s content without fear of being unable to get moving again.
Another element of this “getting what you pay for” comes into play with the battery’s lifespan. A natural part of owning a motor vehicle is that the battery will eventually need to be replaced. Our experience with Odyssey in this regard has been stellar. It not only lasts longer than others we have tried but it also provides quick engine starts and healthy electrical performance.
We have put these batteries through the wringer, installing them on virtually everything we keep for a prolonged period. This includes withstanding plenty of time sitting idly, freezing temperatures, and of course the brutal Arizona summers. More than just the conditions, they also provide ample charge for the variety of all the accessories we often bolt on such as lighting, audio, winches, and the list goes on of things that can significantly drain the electrical system.
With a dual battery setup like we typically use, there’s little question over the vehicle starting- even after hours of stereo use. Time and time again, we have loaded these batteries up with incredibly intensive activities and add-ons, such as light whips, SSV works stereo systems, and even heavy-duty Warn winches.
Even better when it comes to Odyssey batteries, they are now offered in power sports sizes- which means no more custom mounts or other annoyances that can come alongside choosing to move up to a higher-end battery.
We have tried other batteries besides these but have consistently found ourselves returning to Odyssey for ease of installation, peace of mind, and rock-solid reliability and performance. While a battery might not be at the top of your list for upgrades you want to add to your UTV, it certainly may be what it needs.
