Casey Sims Puts His RS1 On Top Of The Box At WORCS 6

 

Glen Helen Raceway – Devore, CA (9/15/2019) – WORCS is back from their summer break, and round 6 did not disappoint!  My team and I headed up to Glen Helen Raceway on Saturday morning so that I could race in the Production 1000 class.  I wasn’t able to make it to practice on Friday, so running in the Production class the day before my race would allow me to see the course and get a few practice laps in.  I have not been running in the Production class this season, and I have no points accumulated in that class, so I started in the back of the pack.  My plan was to run 2 or 3 laps, and then exit the course.

I took off from the line and got the hole shot in my row!  I rounded Talladega and headed out onto the course.  I paid close attention during my first lap so I could learn the course.  I had talked to a few of the other racers that gave me some tips before the race started, so I knew there were a few spots I needed to slow down.  Lap 1 went great and the car was feeling good.  There were 30 cars in the Production 1000 class and there were 2 other classes racing at the same time, so the course was crowded.  I was able to pass quite a few racers throughout the first lap and continued on into my second lap.  My team had told me to run just one more lap and then pull off the course.  As I headed into my third lap, my crew checked the live timing and I had moved up to 5th place!  They asked me if I wanted to keep going.  I was having a blast and I told them yes!  I continued on and stayed in the race.  In the end, I crossed the finish line in 2nd place and I had the fastest lap of the entire race!  I was stoked!

 

After a quick wash and prep on the car Saturday night, we headed back up to Glen Helen on Sunday morning to race in the Stock 1000 class.  I lined up in the first row and waited for the green flag.  I was ready and I felt confident after racing on Saturday.  There were 26 cars in my class, but the course wouldn’t be as crowed as the day before because we were the only class running.  The flag flew and we took off!  I got the hole shot as we rounded the first turn!  I hit the gas and headed out onto the course.  I was able to gain a pretty good physical lead early on in the race, but I had rows that started behind me that I would need to stay ahead of.  My crew kept track on the live timing for me throughout the race.  I was able to maintain my lead and stay ahead for the first 5 laps.  Going into my last lap, my team radioed and told me that I was only 1.7 seconds ahead of second place.  I needed to pick up my pace.  I got on the gas and was able to make up 8 seconds on my last lap.  I finished the race in 1st place and had the fastest lap again of the entire race!  I was beyond happy!  This was my first win at WORCS this season.

 

Next, we will head to round 8 at the Dirt Series at Cahuilla Creek MX.  I love that course and I am looking forward to racing there!
