Lucas Oil Off Road Regionals Season Opens at San Bernardino County Fairgrounds, Victorville CA
Packs of eager racers entered the first and second rounds of the 2020 Lucas Oil Off Road Regionals, hoping for their first win or podium. Saturday, February 29th, sported a perfect race with sunny and mild weather conditions, but on Sunday, March 1st, storm clouds rolled in with high winds and overcast promising rain or snow. The first in the running order was the RZR 170 class. George Lmosas powered his RZR 170 past the field to capture his 1st win in short course for the year and backed it up with another 1st on Sunday. Lmosas has also earned victory elsewhere, winning the BITD Parker RZR 170 race and is on track to chase down another championship in the Lucas series.
Following the RZR 170 was the RZR 570 class. John Koltura would take the win ahead of Parker Christian and Ryle Diel. Sunday results remained the same. Next was the Production 1000 class. After sweeping the 1st AZ Regional, Dallas Nord Blasted past the pack to sweep the podium again in the opening rounds of the Lucas Oil So-Cal Regionals. With the upcoming National race in a few weeks, Nord seems to be on pace to be a top contender for the Championship. Dustin Nelson brought home 2nd place finish the first day but had mechanical issues Sunday, as did Billy Nichols after finishing 3rd on Saturday. Final results Sunday would push Cody Hodgson and Ben Booker to round out the podium behind Dallas Nord.
Finishing both days was the Production Turbo class. Corry Weller was testing her Can-Am X3 and only ran one day but brought home a convincing win showing the field she means business. Behind her, Chance Haugen and Trey Gibbs battled it out for the remaining podium spots. Sunday, Gibbs and Haugen had a dogfight back and forth for the lead, but Gibbs would lose an axle and end up 3rd behind 1st Chance Haugen, 2nd Chelsea Haugen.
