Understanding The Premier UTV Racing Classes For BITD
The Best in the Desert (BITD) series offers three distinct choices when it comes to racing UTVs in the Pro class. You can choose the Unlimited Pro class, Pro Production Turbo class, or Pro Production class. These class distinctions appeal to the majority of teams racing today.
We spoke with BITD racer and driver representative Cory Sappington to get his feedback on the Pro UTV classes. “Here’s the problem with racing UTVs professionally. At BITD, we polled the drivers who seemed to be in favor of splitting the cars into three distinct Pro classes. The Unlimited Pro class is for teams wanting to race with no restrictions. This gives anyone wanting to develop new machinery an outlet to experiment and try new things,” said Cory.
“The Pro Production Turbo class was added for people racing Turbo-equipped machines. They are required to use stock engines and stock ECUs, which we monitor. This class is designed to help keep the costs down. The #1 complaint we get at the races is that it’s too expensive. This is a way to help keep costs down.”
“Finally, we kept a Pro Production Class (naturally-aspirated) for drivers that have non-turbo cars, which are still popular,” said Cory.
Conclusions…
While the jury is still out with three separate Pro classes, the drivers and series promoter Casey Folks have spoken. This is how it will be for the conceivable future. What’s your opinion? Send us your comments to: dennis@utvsportsmag.com
