One for the Records in SS10
Rookie at the Dakar Rally 2024, Sara Price Makes a History in Saudi Arabia as the First American (and Third-ever) Woman to Win a Stage
Stage 10 saw competitors return to the stunning landscapes of Al Ula with a 371 km selective and two road sections. Despite a challenging and tricky course, Sara Price and navigator Jeremy Gray had an exceptional stage – winning the SSV classification and making history. Price joins the prestigious club of Dakar legends Jutta Kleinschmidt and Christina Gutierrez as the third woman to win a stage in the world’s toughest rally.
Price has been running consistently with top 10 results in each of the SSV stages at the 2024 Dakar but today topped it all with Sara reaching a key goal in her Dakar quest. The American racer continues to impress as she is accomplishing this feat as both a privateer and Dakar Rally rookie.
As an unorthodox twist of fate, Sara’s significant other – 2020 Dakar Champion in Motos – Ricky Brabec is not only in the running to victory again in Saudi, but he also found himself on the top step of the podium in SS10 for the first time this year. The only time in the competition’s history that a couple have simultaneously achieved 1st position during the same stage in different disciplines. And lucky for us, both of those racers are American. (Bonus!)
To top off this red, white, and blue frosted cake, US manufacturer, Polaris Industries, is leading the T4 class (just ahead of Price) with their RZR, captained by Xavier de Soultrait. Utilizing a world-class partnership with Loeb Racing, this is the first time a US OEM would be in contention for triumph in the 46 editions of Dakar.
With only two stages remaining, Sara and her team head into Stage 11 in a coveted 2nd position in SSV and 1st in the World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC).
”It was absolutely amazing to be able to win this stage, it means a whole lot. Not only were we the First American Woman to win a stage but we were the third Woman Ever to be able to achieve that. So this is big in the history making and I hope to make America proud!” – Sara Price #419, SP Motorsports, Price Racing
