Round 5 of the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC headed to Sin City to race in the impressive Orleans Arena right off the Las Vegas Strip. The schedule was slightly different from the average weekend since the MC guys were also included in the weekend. All SXS racing was held on Sunday, with Pro Production running first and Pro Stock running second. After a rough race on Saturday at the BITD Silver State 300, Beau Judge would come back to race at WORCS and pull off quite an impressive win in Pro Production to further his lead in points.
Cayden Maccachren would make his way back to the top spot on the podium for the first time since the first round this season. Starting a lot earlier than usual, the race began at 9:25 AM, with the pros starting two at a time. Jeremiah Wagner would lead from the beginning of the race until the ninth lap, when he began to have some mechanical issues that would force him to back off the pace. He would finish in 5th after having to pull over and fix a problem with his car. Once Judge made the aggressive pass around Wagner, he would lead the rest of the race physically and on corrected time over the rest of the field.
Beau Baron put together another great race as he looked to make it on the podium for the second time this season but would have a mechanical issue that would force him out of the race while sitting in second place. Shawn Saxton would start in one of the last rows off the start but that wouldn’t stop him from making his way up the board as he battled against Baron and Cayden Maccachren who would be running in third up till the final lap, where Larry Heidler would come from behind to make his way into that position on corrected time. Heidler, who hasn’t made an SXS Pro podium since the 2019 season, put together a fantastic race where you saw him drop down to seventh at one point before making his charge back into a podium spot.
On the final race of the weekend, the SXS Pro Stock would line up as the points leader in the class. Brayden Baker would start the beginning of the race in the lead, but as the race would go on, his door net would end up falling off, and for safety reasons, he would have to pull off and allow for his team to put the net back on allowing for Maccachren and Trey Eggleston to get around him. As the points leader, Baker would put it in cruise control, knowing he didn’t want to risk any accident to bring his Polaris RZR to the finish line in 3rd place.
Cayden MacCachren would come into this race a bit down in points as he could not race round four due to schedule conflicts with SCORE racing. Still, he wouldn’t let that stop him as he defends his 2021 Pro Stock title as he wins under the lights in Vegas and tightens the point race going into the next round. Another racer who has been putting together an outstanding rookie campaign in the Pro stock class is Eggleston, who finds himself on the podium again, this time in second place after a 3rd place finish at Glen Helen earlier in the year.
