Ever so often we find ourselves in sticky situations, and for some reason it always seems to be at the worst possible time. We’re always in the middle of doing things or trying to get somewhere and something goes wrong. Imagine being out and about and you realize your phone is about to die. How rad would it be to have a useful tool that could charge you and a friend right up? I mean, who needs wall outlets when you have the Rugged Geek RG2000 Sport with it’s two USB and one USB-C outlets?
What about waking up in the middle of the night and trying to figure out what time it is so you start frantically rustling around, throwing your sheets and flipping your pillows trying to find your phone (all-the-while it’s right underneath you). The RG2000 has a built-in flashlight to have your back.
How about a more practical instance, like trying to do a photoshoot near a thunderstorm to get a rad backdrop of lightning in the distance—that is sarcasm, we do not actually recommend doing this. Although after getting some first-hand experience of a storm closing in a little faster than anticipated, we were more than stoked to have this IP66 water-resistant Jump Starter as the focus of this product review.
Brandon and I here at UTV Sports Magazine tried having some fun with this shoot. We ended up getting hit by a large gust of wind that slammed the hood of our Roxor against the windshield and the photo lights went flying. I was trying with all my might to hold the hood and one of the light stands, while Brandon scurried to get all the rest of the gear packed up. After five solid minutes of struggling to get everything put away, we finally did. We went to fire up the little diesel for a quick escape, and as sure as Brandon’s got a mullet, we drained the battery with the stereo, and it wouldn’t start.
With a matter of moments, we were able to pull the portable jump starter back out of the case, connect it to the battery, and the Roxor fired right up—all in time to high tail it out of the desert. If it wasn’t for the easily accessible jump starter output port, impossible to improperly connect INTELLIBOOST cables, and ample power supply, this situation would have genuinely blown (pun-intended). With a dedicated 12V port to power devices such as small air compressors, GPS, laptops, charge camera batteries, and then some, the RG2000 is actually a useful tool to add to our everyday-ride-kit. We’ve already found it to be extremely useful when we least expected to need it.
